What is the HK4As
Established in 1957, the HK4As is managed and run by an Executive Committee and Sub-Committees. Committee members, elected from the senior management of member agencies, deal with issues concerning the future of the advertising industry and the business of member agencies.

There are currently around 29 members which are major advertising agencies sharing common objectives. These include the setting and maintaining of standards of business ethics, enforcing an advertising standards code, acting as a means of arbitration between agencies, and providing a forum for the exchange of views between advertising agencies and other engaged in the industry.

The Association organizes training programmes, membership activities and awards to recognize and honour the best work created in Hong Kong and China.

Message from the Chairman of HK4As

As we begin 2011, we have witnessed a resurgence of award winning creativity in our industry, evidenced by our member agencies strong performance at leading international award shows throughout 2010.

The HK4As broadening role continues to provide leadership for our industry, extending its reach to the community and in building the profile of Hong Kong as a hub with creativity at its core. The HK4As is now plays a key role in not only maintaining, but nurturing Hong Kong’s advantage in one of the world’s most dynamic regions.

In September 2010, the HK4As presented a ground breaking study of the “Chinese Brands Going Global – Success Factors Now and the Future”, which polled the opinions of approximately 500 industry experts from throughout the four major advertising holding groups, globally. The survey, the first of its kind across the competitive advertising groups, was revealed to an audience of over 200 Chinese brand stakeholders at a forum organized in conjunction with the HKTDC at the 2010 Shanghai Expo.

Our Kam Fan awards and Effies not only recognise the best in creativity and effectiveness in the Hong Kong market, they now provide further opportunities for our best talent to hone their skills. The HK4As has developed numerous initiatives such as the Kam Fan Winners Programme which, with the continuous support of CreateHK Office of the HKSAR, has allowed winners of the Kam Fan awards to travel to some of the world’s most respected and influential award shows, such as AdFest, Cannes Lions and Spikes Asia. Such initiatives have not only benefited the winners themselves, but provided positive impact to our industry by allowing our best talent to be exposed to the international arena, and who have in turn inspired a new generation of students who attended their sharing sessions.

Through our various education initiatives, the HK4As has strives to enhance the professionalism and quality of our local talent. Through its internship and graduate programmes, the HK4As has allowed training opportunities within our member agencies as well as an ongoing commitment to job creation in our industry. Programmes such as AdSchool allow students and young members of our industry to learn from our top professionals and industry leaders, while the Kam Fan judges sharing session allows our members to hear from some of world’s leading international advertising and communications creatives.

I am pleased to report that the HK4As and its Sub-Committees, with the support of our members, will continue along this dynamic path. 2011 will see the HK4As organizing an increasing number of events, developing an increasing number of collaborations with the offices of the HKSAR, and delivering an increasing number of opportunities for our members and our industry. In addition, our initiatives aim to benefit the Hong Kong community and business environment through fostering creativity.

Our mission of building Hong Kong as a hub with creativity at its core has never been a more relevant or more rewarding objective.
